Maternity Style Round-up (Key Pieces to Buy)

So this post is going to be about my personal Maternity style, what I suggest that you invest in that is Maternity and what you can still wear out of your wardrobe that is not. Keep in mind for me since I do still work full time at an office where most days business casual is appropriate, but I also have to have dressier clothes too, I try to include items that I can not only mix and match for work, but can also wear on my leisure time.

I recommend that you buy only a few essential pieces that are actually Maternity, not only bc this can get very expensive, especially if you have $$$ taste like me, but bc you are only wearing these items for less than a year. In my case it was not until my Second Trimester that I found I really needed some Maternity pieces, but up until then I was able to use tricks of the trade and modify my non-maternity pants (specifically jeans) to fit. However, with this I found that although they still fit me through the legs that it became uncomfortable the way I was having to wear them with my growing bump, so based on this here is what I suggest...

If you work and need some nice "Work Appropriate" clothes do this...Buy several basic Maternity pants that you can mix and match with any top. I like the Inset Panel pants style if wanting to wear a shirt that I think looks better tucked in and the crossover style with a tight shirt which really makes your bump stand out. I invested in one pair of distressed Maternity jeans (which I will wear anytime other than to work), a solid black pair of jeans and white ones for summer. I also purchased a nice pair of black ponte maternity pants.

Keep any stretchy or loose fitting non maternity pants that you have bc you should still be able to wear those. I find that any pull on style pants or leggings still fit me fine. Any dressy jogger, pull-on, harem pants that have an elastic waist should still work for you. Depending on the rise you will most likely need to wear them positioned under the bump.

I bought two Maternity dresses (at least so far) and truly feel that I should be good, incorporating in accessories such as jackets and cardigans for different looks. One is sleeveless to wear under cardigans and the other has longer sleeves, but both are jersey pull on style silhouette. I also have lots of non maternity dresses that are pull on tank/sleeveless dresses which I'm hoping I can still wear throughout the rest of my pregnancy in addition to these maternity dresses. I find that solid colors, not a lot of print is easier to re-wear so this way you can dress up or down.

Tops, Again I have only bought a handful of Maternity tops as I find that most of my others will still fit me. I invested in a couple long sleeve, several short sleeves and a tank. Two of the short sleeve ones are graphic tees. Of course I had to buy them bc they have really cute pregnancy announcements on them and what other time am I going to be able to or even want to draw attention to that area, right? LOL I probably won't be wearing them to work, but they are going to be great for the weekends! All of the others are solid stretchy tops that I can wear to work and any other time. I keep mentioning solid and fitted bc I promise you, this is what is going to really make you look your best. You don't want anything too busy bc then you won't be able to accessorize. A little goes a long way! I would suggest that if you love prints you stick with limiting them to a few different patterns such as stripes and florals. For non maternity tops I find that my Z supply pocket tees and any Free People tops really look great. The Z supply tees enhance my bump and the Free People ones, which are mostly flowy, look best tucked in.

For shoes, of course with Summer around the corner you are going to be able to wear any of your flat sandals/flip flops etc, but I also suggest that you invest in a nice pair of pull on sneakers, a pair of wedges and sandals with a blocked heel. You should be able to mix and match all of these with different outfits.

How cute are these for Summer?

Like these too!

Stock up on these Z Supply Tees. Find at a great deal here!

I also love this top. I just bought it in several colors. It is Maternity and I purchased in a medium. Pictures to come. Find here!

Tanks, Also loving this one, also Maternity: Bought it in a small and its a gorgeous blue, which in person is like a sea green color!

Also have several of these tanks. Non Maternity and are only $12, I wear a Medium pre-pregnancy and fits great with the bump!

Black jeans. Mine are Maternity. I like these Inset Panel Skinny Jeans to wear with a shirt tucked in.

Also got these for Summer and purchased a 6 in both so they wouldn't be uncomfortably tight. I normally wear sz 4-6 pre-pregnancy.

And if not tucking in and putting bump on display, plus wanting to be super comfy, also get you a pair of these crossover pants.

I wore this one for Easter Sunday, on the shoulder look and it was perfect for church and my bump.

Any non maternity dress that is fitted is also going to look cute, I have this one. Pictured above under the black cardigan is this one in the Forever Heather Berry color. Similar cardigan.

In the one picture I am wearing the Leith Circle Cardigan in beige, sold out, but similar here.

I like blocked heels when wearing a heel while pregnant, more support!

I have these lace up sandals from last year and you better believe I'm still gonna wear them! Flat version here, also cute.

These are also blocked heel sandal by Sam Edelman!

And for those days where you are just running errands, get you some UGGS. Go great with leggings and a cute tee. Find similar on sale here. Mine are the classics, find here.

As the weather continues to warm up I will post more outfits wearing these pieces and will also being doing a post on shorts bc this girl isn't going to be able to get though this Summer without some Maternity shorts, so stay tuned ;)
